Special features such as through-the-door dispensers, higher-end ice machines and adjustable flex drawers make them stand out from the rest. We asked Ladina Schopf – interior designer, architect and founder of LS Projects – for her suggestions on how to pick the right one. They looked at the capacity of storage, layout, and energy efficiency, among other features. GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator The name of the series suggests that GE’s Profile series is targeted at consumers who want to incorporate cutting-edge technology into their kitchen. This refrigerator has it all including a Keurig K cup coffee maker inside the door to a sophisticated dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Since this refrigerator is an extra amount, I'd like to see better. Other than that, this fridge is a fantastic choice. It has a large freezer compartment, which is quite uncommon in counter-depth French door refrigerators. Additionally, it holds a good amount of frozen food compared to similar models. The fridge comes with 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment offers 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is roughly on the same as a French door refrigerator that costs this much. It comes with a decent size freezer in the left side. But, it's not the largest one I've seen. You can adjust the shelves in both compartments to create a customized storage layout for what you want to keep. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS also looks attractive. Its LED lighting is a nice feature, and the in-door storage bins come with the third shelf, which can fold down to make it possible to store items that are tall. The drawers have temperature controls so that you can set them for Beverage, Meat, or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, however I found their textured plastic coatings a bit hard on the fingers. The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator is equipped with a complete set of features you'd expect from a refrigerator at this price, including Wi-Fi and app support through GE's SmartHQ software. The app, which is available for iOS and Android devices can let you control your fridge from anywhere in world, and it has many options for customizing. It also gives you notifications when a door is left open, when your fridge or freezer needs to be defrosted and when it's time to change the filter. It is nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS came with Precise Fill which is an option that is available in a handful of other GE refrigerators that allows you to preset how many cups of water you'd like to pour out at a time. It does have a countdown on the fridge's display to show how much water you have remaining, but that's not as helpful as Precise Fill. Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator The Bosch French-door Refrigerator is an impressive product. It's designed to appear like a seamless piece of your kitchen. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also boasts a veggie compartment that helps keep vegetables and fruits fresher for longer and has dual compressors to ensure the best food preservation. The Ice maker we tested is one of the most efficient, and it produces an ice pyramid with only a little water. This fridge is perfect for a small household or a kitchenette that wants an attractive design and top of the line food preservation. The fridge was rated the best refrigerator in our Refrigerators test, for several reasons. The temperature of the freezer remained stable at a level that was just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit, never moving more than a fraction a degree—this is key to avoiding freezer burn. The refrigerator section of the fridge also performed well. It reached the temperature it was set within a matter of hours, and maintained the temperature throughout our testing. Bosch is known for its top-of-the-line appliances and appliances, so it's not a surprise that this counter depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance that has the option to connect to your home Wi-Fi and Bosch's Home Connect platform. The app allows you to monitor and control the refrigerator remotely using your tablet or smartphone. The refrigerator is expensive, but it offers top-quality features and functions for the cost. It is important to know the limitations of your fridge. It has a narrow shelf space, so you may need to be creative when storing tall items. Also, the shelves are not sprillproof and can be easily stained or damaged by sharp objects. The trays are easily removed from the fridge. However, they should be cleaned regularly to prevent the growth of mold. LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth refrigerator is a great choice for those who need lots of space within an extremely compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge features an ordinary French door design, with two rows of spill-capture shelving and a set of crisper drawers. The top shelf on the right can be folded down to give tall items more headroom. There's also a full-width storage drawer for deli items and an internal water dispenser. One of the great features of this refrigerator is that the Ice maker is located in the freezer, which makes it easy to transfer ice into the fridge to be used when it is required. The freezer also comes with innovative design features such as sliding drawers that allow you to organize your belongings. It also has a huge bin that holds plenty of frozen food items as well as an storage bin for ice. french style fridge freezer is another cool feature of the refrigerator. You can control the temperature, lighting, and other aspects of your refrigerator from your smartphone. It's a nice way to monitor and manage your refrigerator, particularly if you're away from home. Although the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't necessarily add to the overall performance of the refrigerator. The fridge took a bit longer to chill food and defrost it than some others we tested. This could be due to the larger capacity. The other issue we have with the doors of this refrigerator. The handles with a sunken design allow shorter people to open them from the bottom. However taller people have a hard time closing them without slamming. It would have been more effective if they had handles mounted on the front. The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is an excellent option for those looking to blend the aesthetics of a French-door refrigerator with an efficient design. Its capacity is above average for a counter-depth model and it cools evenly and has a good layout. It's also a bit less than the best counter-depth refrigerators that have an ice maker, which helps make it a desirable choice. Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator If you're looking for a French door fridge that doesn't cost you a fortune this Frigidaire is a great choice. It's a basic design that isn't as visually striking like some of the competitors however it comes with enough features to make it a solid pick. Its most important feature, the adjustable temperature drawer, helps to keep food like vegetables and meat fresher for longer. It also has a large water and ice maker dispenser. The “Chill Drawer”, which is located above the two crisper bins, is another nice feature. This drawer lets you redirect a portion of the fridge's cooling power directly to this area, so you can store foods that need extra attention. This feature can be adjusted using a slider located outside the drawer. You can also set the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've noticed that the generic settings work better than the specific ones. During my tests, the temperature of the refrigerator stayed fairly consistent across different areas of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge didn't stray significantly from 38 degrees, and the middle of the fridge was within one degree of 36. This is a great performance, but does not quite make it to the top of our ratings. This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also combine this fridge with a smart thermometer to get more precise readings of your fridge's internal temperature. The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's outside is made of stainless steel with a grey-bodied body with a “smudge-proof” finish. It does an excellent job of removing streaks and fingerprints even when compared to the glossy stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tested.
